Research Triangle Park’s new downtown

Places to eat, sleep, and stay are coming to Hub RTP.

Located between Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill is Research Triangle Park, a 7,000-acre stretch of hundreds of companies. At its center is Hub RTP, a district that includes Boxyard, Frontier, and multiple new developments.

Frontier, which contains meeting and office spaces aimed at startups, was the first area of the district to open in 2015, followed by Boxyard, a collection of shipping container eateries and retailers, in June 2021.

Up next is Horseshoe — a project that will move Hub RTP closer to becoming the “downtown” of Research Triangle Park, according to RTP’s communications director Jan Mactal. “We also hope to be the meeting place for all of the Triangle region,” she told RALtoday.

The $1.5 billion Hub RTP project, which is being built along Burden’s Creek near the I-40 and Davis Drive intersection, will be the largest district in Research Triangle Park. By the time the 100-acre multi-use development is completed, people will be able to eat, sleep, and stay there.

Coming soon to Hub RTP

Horseshoe, a U-shaped trio of buildings by White Point, broke ground in October 2022 and is expected to be completed in 2024. The five-story building at its center will house offices over ground-floor retail, while the two adjacent buildings will have additional retail space. Horseshoe’s first office tenant is cybersecurity startup Data443.

With features like splash pads, green spaces, trail connections, and public art, Horseshoe will function as a centralized meeting place within the district.

Hub RTP will also have places for people to live. Currently, three of the four planned residential buildings by MAA are under construction. They are slated to open in late 2024. Construction of a parking garage will wrap up toward the end of the year.

This summer, an eight-story life sciences tower by Longfellow will break ground. No tenants have been confirmed yet for the 220,000 sqft of office and lab space.

Across from Horseshoe will be a 250-room, upscale hotel. Developers expect to break ground in early 2024.
